Cricket South Africa announces bumper home summer of 2019-20 featuring England and Australia
The two teams will come visiting for a full-fledged tour.
Though the focus of every team in the cricketing world is on the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, Cricket South Africa, has gone onto announce their program for a massive home season 2019-20 which will see big teams like England and Australia pay visits for full tours.
In the first part of the summer, they will host England from mid-December until mid-February and will engage in four Test matches, three One-Day Internationals and three T20 International matches. Meanwhile, Australia will then arrive on the shores of the country to play three T20I matches followed by three ODIs from mid-February.
Durban snubbed as a venue for England Test series
The Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban has been a witness to many an amazing encounter in the five-day format involving South Africa but misses out some Test match action as Centurion, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth have been chosen to host England for the Test series.
“This will be a huge summer both for our Proteas, who are currently ranked in the top three in all three formats, and for our fans who can look forward to action-packed and top-quality entertainment against two of the powerhouses of world cricket,” CSA Chief Executive Thabang Moroe was quoted as saying by sport24.co.za.
“The Test matches will take on particular significance as this will be our first home series in the ICC World Test Championship following our away series in India in October. I am delighted also to announce that we will be working closely with SA Tourism around the Test host venues of Pretoria, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg to ensure that this series creates a win-win situation both for cricket and the South African economy,” Moroe added.
Wanderers Stadium will be hosting its annual Pink ODI against England.
As far as the Proteas team is concerned, it will play Sri Lanka in their first warm-up match of the ICC World Cup 2019 on May 24, at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Then they will encounter West Indies on May 26 at the County Ground, Bristol for the second and final warm-up game.
