India started on a high note against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 4 as the two teams squared off once again for their Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2022. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and put India to bat first as India skipper Rohit Sharma and his deputy KL Rahul opened the innings.
Sharma was on fire from the word go, and Rahul assisted him very well as the two shared a 54-run opening partnership before the skipper was dismissed and Virat Kohli joined Rahul. But even after the setback, India went on to post their highest-ever powerplay total against Pakistan in the T20I format as the Men in Blue added 62 runs in six overs at the loss of one wicket.
India’s previous best was 48/1 which they scored back in 2012, a decade ago, while playing in Ahmedabad. Both Rahul and Sharma played brilliantly and utilized the powerplay overs in the best way possible. They found the gaps and kept sending the ball towards the fence as India’s start was studded with fours and sixes.
India Pakistan kick start another exciting encounter
India and Pakistan put up a great fight in their previous encounter at this tournament, where Hardik Pandya’s all-around brilliance led the Men in Blue to an impressive final-over thrilling victory. Both the teams gave their best, and Pakistan bowlers had almost won the game for their side before Pandya started the fireworks and finished off the game in style with a six.
India won both their Group stage encounters and made it into the Super Four stage with ease, whereas Pakistan won a game against Hong Kong after losing against India to make it into Super Four. The two teams, after their ongoing encounter, will face Sri Lanka and Afghanistan further in the tournament and the top two teams in the points table, among the four, will make it into the finals of the continental event.
