AUS vs IND 2024-25: Jasprit Bumrah shatters Kapil Dev's record with Brisbane six-fer
Bumrah broke Kapil Dev's record to become the fastest Asian bowler to take 50 wickets in Australia.
Jasprit Bumrah has surpassed Kapil Dev's record after scalping a fifer in the third Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Brisbane. The 31-year-old pace bowling sensation continues to break records even as the Indian team is struggling in the five-match series.
The third Test of the series has been a disaster for the visitors so far, as the Aussies posted a huge 445 on the board on the back of centuries from Travis Head (152 off 160) and Steve Smith (101 off 190). The Indian team would have wanted to make a statement with the bat but that was not to be as the team lost Yashavi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant cheaply on Day 3.
While the visiting team is struggling to fight out the Australians, one player who has constantly challenged them is Bumrah, who took his 12th five-wicket haul in Tests registering figures of 6/76 in the first innings of the third Test. With this, Bumrah became the the fastest Asian to get to 50 wickets in Australia, achieving the feat in just his 10th match Down Under. He displaced Kapil Dev, who reached the landmark in 11 games in Australia.
