The most entertaining Big Bash League season 12 has come to an end, with Perth Scorchers claiming the title for the fifth time. Brisbane Heat, on the other hand, after toppling the top teams in the playoffs have conceded defeat in the finals, eventually ending as the runners-up. A brisk innings (53) from the skipper, Ashton Turner, and a handy 25 runs cameo from Cooper Connolly, outclassed Jimmy Peirson & co by a margin of 5 wickets in one of the greatest finals in the history of BBL.
Top Performers:
Aaron Hardie has been magnificent in the series with 460 runs at an average of 41.81 and has stuck at 141.90, he is followed by Matthew Short who has aggregated 458 runs in 14 inns at an average of 35.23. Third in the list is Josh Inglis with 431 runs at an average of 35.91. In the bowling department, Sean Abbott has been brilliant with the ball as he is at the helm of bowling chart with 29 scalps. Michael Nesser and Andrew Tye share the next spot with 26 scalps each.
Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers from the twelfth edition of the Big Bash League:
15 – Sydney Thunder registered the lowest-ever total of 15 in all T20 matches. They bagged the unwanted record against Adelaide Strikers in Match no. five in Sydney. Previously, Turkey got bundled out for just 21 against the Czech Republic in a T20 international in 2019.
1 – Steven Smith became the first player from Sydney Sixers to smash a century in the BBL. He smashed 101 against the Strikers in Match no.45 and followed it up with another ton in the next game against the Thunder.
230/3 – Adelaide Strikers recorded the highest-ever successful run chase of 230/3 against Hobart Hurricanes in the history of BBL in Match no. 30 in Adelaide. The previous biggest chase was achieved by the Hurricanes (223/8) against Melbourne Renegades in 2017.
9 – Nathan Ellis became the ninth bowler to pick a hat-trick in the BBL. He achieved the feat against the Hurricanes in Match no.42 in Hobart. Before Ellis, Michael Neser became the eighth bowler to grab the milestone in this edition itself against the Renegades in Match no. ten.
29 -Sean Abbott has picked 29 wickets in this season, this is the joint third most number of wickets in a BBL season along with Jhye Richardson, who did it in 2019/2020. The top position is shared between Daniel Sams and Peter Siddle.
5 -Perth Scorchers now have five titles in BBL, they equalled the record with Mumbai Indians for most title wins in Franchise League.
2 -Steven Smith became the second player after Ben McDermott to smash back-to-back centuries in BBL history.
1 -Ashton Turner became the first player to score two 50+ scores as captain in BBL Finals.
2 -Perth Scorchers has defended the title for the second time in BBL 12 and became the first team to achieve this feat in Franchise League.
