Afghanistan will embark on their first-ever campaign in the Champions Trophy as they take on South Africa at the National Stadium in Karachi in the third match of ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The two sides walk into this fixture with contrasting forms. Afghanistan beat Zimbabwe away from home in their most recent ODI series and had a strong showing before that as well. Afghanistan both Bangladesh and South Africa in their previous ODI series, albeit those were in the UAE.
South Africa on the other hand have had a turbulent ride to the tournament. The Proteas did not win a single match in the recent tri-series held in Pakistan and failed to make the final of the tournament. And before that, they were whitewashed 0-3 by Pakistan at home. Of their last three bilateral ODI series, South Africa have won just one, beating Ireland in the UAE, after losing to Afghanistan at the same venue.
Both teams will hope to kickstart their Champions Trophy campaign in style and keep their hopes up to go far in the competition.
