The last match aka Match 11 of Group B will also be the last of the three matches of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The upcoming game will be played between England (ENG) and South Africa (SA), at the National Stadium, in Karachi.
Notably, the English side has been eliminated from the Champions Trophy while South Africa will want to keep their high chances of qualifying for the semifinals alive. The Proteas' fixture against Australia had to be abandoned even without the toss due to persistent rains, while England went down to Afghanistan in a thriller in their last respective matches.
Ibrahim Zadran broke the record for the highest individual score in the Champions Trophy after Afghanistan had been 37/3 at one point. He stitched important partnerships with Hashmatullah Shahidi, Azmatullah Omarazai and Mohammad Nabi who all made 40s to lead Afghanistan to 325.
England's chase was a bit helter-skelter as they lost early wickets but Joe Root stood firm and anchored the chase in a way he is known for. Root made his first ODI century in more than 5 years and took whatever little support he had from his teammates and made optimal use of it. However, his dismissal triggered a collapse in the final stages of the match, resulting in Omarazai claiming a five-wicket haul. As a result, England slid to an 8-run loss in the penultimate over.
