India and Australia will play the first semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, March 4. Both teams are unbeaten in this tournament and will want to keep that streak going by heading into the final of the tournament.
First ODI meeting since 2023 ODI World Cup final
This will be the first time that the two sides will meet in an ODI after the ODI World Cup Final of 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad where Australia snatched their sixth ODI World Cup title.
Australia’s journey to the Semifinal
Australia pulled off a historic chase against England in their opening encounter but their subsequent encounters against South Africa and Afghanistan were both washouts. The Kangaroos were in a strong position against Afghanistan and may even have gone on to win by the looks of it before inclement weather played spoilsport.
India's unbeaten run in the tournament
India made it 3 out of 3 in the group stages of the tournament with a win over New Zealand in their last match. India were in early trouble being reduced to 30/3 in the powerplay, but Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel steadied the ship. Hardik Pandya took India's charge in the death overs but Matt Henry's fifer kept India to what appeared to be a below par 249.
Spinners dominate as India overcomes New Zealand
India's spinners took over keeping a tight leash on proceedings unlike their Kiwi counterparts. Kane Williamson tried to bring New Zealand back from a slow start, but the pressures of an ever increasing asking rate took down the Kiwis. Varun Chakravarthy played wrecker-in-chief with a fifer in only his second ODI.

The surface has been growing slower and slower as the tournament has progressed. The preferred option is arguably still to chase, but India proved they are no slouch if they get to bowl second here either.
