Match number 22 of Indian Premier League 2024 will see defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on former champions and currently second-placed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

CSK began the season well defeating RCB and GT in home games before losing the plot and losing successive away games to Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. CSK currently find themselves third on the points table with two wins from four matches.

KKR have started the season very well winning three matches out of three but now face an even sterner test in what will be their third consecutive away game. In their last game, which was against Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam, KKR put up the second-highest team total in IPL history.

CSK have been unbeaten at their home base in the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai this season and now they will host Kolkata Knight Riders who are unbeaten this season so far. This competition promises to be a high-octane dose of entertainment.

MA Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report:

Chennai has always been known as a spin-friendly surface, but this year in particular, it has been flat and batting-friendly bearing witness to very high run rates in the two matches held at this stadium this year. A similarly batting-friendly surface as used against Gujarat Titans can be expected.

CSK vs KKR Strategies & Match-ups:

On a flat surface like this, the obvious idea seems to be to try and bat first and rack up totals out of reach. CSK's batting found the going tough in their last two games, while KKR's batting does not seem to be slowing down any time soon, and probably will not if Chepauk remains flat enough. The important match-ups for this match are: Deepak Chahar vs Sunil Narine, Andre Russell vs Ravindra Jadeja, and Shivam Dube vs Sunil Narine.

Player Battles to Watch Out For:

Shivam Dube vs Sunil Narine:

CSK's talisman has scored just 23 runs from the 22 balls he has faced from the spinner without ever being dismissed. This match is his chance to prove the spin-hitting prowess he is so well known for.

Sunil Narine vs Ravindra Jadeja:

Jadeja has bowled just seven balls to Narine and has dismissed him twice. Narine has managed 14 runs at a strike rate of 200 against the former CSK captain. If Jadeja can get Narine early, CSK can stop KKR in their tracks.

X-Factors for CSK vs KKR:

Chennai Super Kings:

The only batter who has been consistent for CSK in their tough time has been Shivam Dube. His hitting in the last game put CSK in a dominant position at one point and his batting against KKR's spinners will be instrumental to CSK.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

Sunil Narine has found a new lease at the top of the order this season, he was very instrumental in KKR putting up the second-highest total in IPL history the other day. His batting on an uncharacteristically batting-friendly Chepauk will dictate how much KKR score.
