The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first. The openers got off to a flier as Gaikwad and Conway added 141 runs for the first wicket in 14.3 overs. Gaikwad smashed 79 runs off 50 balls before getting dismissed by Chetan Sakariya. His 79-run knock included three fours and seven sixes.
However, Conway kept the scoreboard ticking, as he, along with Shivam Dube, added 54 runs for the second wicket. Soon, Anrich Nortje broke the good-looking partnership by picking Dube for 22 runs. Conway (87 off 52) rose to his ninth IPL half-century before getting dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed in the 19th over. Valuable knocks from Ravindra Jadeja (20 off 7) and MS Dhoni (5 0ff 4) helped CSK post a huge total of 223 in 20 overs.
In response to that, Tushar Deshpande drew the first blood as Prithvi Shaw departed for five runs in the second over. Deepak Chahar has dismissed both Philip Salt and Rilee Rossouw in the fifth over. David Warner and Yash Dhull added 49 runs for the fourth wicket. Ravindra Jadeja broke the partnership by sending Dhull back for 13 runs. Warner smashed 86 runs off 58 balls, before getting dismissed by Matheesha Pathirana. His knock included seven fours and five maximums. Asa other DC players failed to contribute with the bat and kept giving away wickets at regular intervals, DC lost the match by a big margin of 77 runs.
