Sri Lanka, who are already knocked out of the tournament, face England in Match 39 of the T20 World Cup 2022 on November 05 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Jos Buttler and his side need a victory to register their place in the semi-final, while a Sri Lanka victory would mean the hosts Australia go through along with New Zealand, who are the only team so far to book their place in the final four.

With Australia’s win over Afghanistan by four runs in Match 38 ended Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka’s campaign down under. Talking about England, they began their tournament with a five-wicket victory over Afghanistan in Perth before suffering a shocking loss to Ireland by just five runs (DLS method) at the ‘G. Their mini Ashes clash with the Aussies got called off due to rain at the same venue with Buttler’s men returning to winning ways against the Kiwis in the next match.

A win in their final group game would guarantee a semi-final birth for the 2010 winners England while the defending champions and the hosts Australia would be hoping for a favour from the Lankan Lions. A Sri Lankan victory would be counted as an upset as England is considered as one of the favorites to lift their second T20 WC title.
