Fastest Centuries for Chennai Super Kings in IPL history
Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his second century for CSK during the match 39 versus LSG in IPL 2024.
Chennai Super Kings showed no mercy as they launched a massive assault on the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers during the match no. 39 of the ongoing IPL 2024. The capacity crowd were treated to some fine strokes as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube punished a hapless looking Lucknow bowling on a hot day in Chennai.
Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed his second ever IPL century and was not out on 108 runs. This is the best ever IPL score for the Chennai Super Kings skipper. It was also special because this is the first ever time that Ruturaj Gaikwad had scored a IPL century in India.
The right-handed batter was supported by Shivam Dube as the pair added 104 runs for the 4th wicket. The hosts got the much-needed boost as far as scoring is concerned thanks to some lusty hits by Shivam Dube which saw him deposit seven sixes into the stands.
Speaking of the Super Kings, over the years, the franchise has had some amazing cricketers in their squads. Since the last few editions, Ruturaj Gaikwad has become one of the leading batters for the side. The 27-year-old has been one of the key figures for his side at the top of the order.
In 2023, when the franchise won its record-equalling fifth title, it was the opening stand between Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad that was crucial. After impressing everyone with his cool and calm nature, resembling Dhoni, Gaikwad was given the captaincy ahead of the 2024 season.
The right-handed opener scored his century from just 56 balls versus the Super Giants to become the fifth joint-fastest centurion for the franchise. After scoring his second century, the Maharashtra-born also became the batter with most centuries for Yellow Army, jointly at the top with Murali Vijay and Shane Watson.
