The defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) will defend their title against the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Grand Finale of IPL 2023 at the world’s largest stadium- The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday, May 29.
Chennai Super Kings will be coming into the contest after toppling the table toppers, Gujarat Titans, in the Qualifer 1 of IPL 2023 by a margin of 15 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad was adjudged player of the match in the last game for scoring 60 runs, which helped CSK in setting a 173-run target at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. CSK also registered their first win over GT in IPL in the all-important clash.
Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, will be heading into the game on the back of a massive 62 runs win against MI in Qualifier 2 courtesy of Shubman Gill’s masterclass, registering his third century in IPL, followed by Mohit Sharma’s splendid five-fer. With this, Hardik Pandya & Co. became the first team to appear in consecutive finals in the first two IPL seasons and the third team after CSK and MI to appear in consecutive IPL finals. GT would be keen on defending their title at home.
For GT, Shubman Gill has been the go-to batter; he has piled up runs in such a way that the second-leading run-scorer of GT is 2.6 times lesser than his aggregate. Shubman Gill has aggregated 851 runs in 16 games at an average of 60.79 and has struck fabulously at 156.43; he currently holds the IPL 2023 Orange Cap, while Hardik Pandya and Wriddhiman Saha have scored 325 and 317 runs, respectively.
In the bowling department, Mohammed Shami has been brilliant with the ball, picking 28 wickets in 16 games, while his fellow mates Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma are also in contention for IPL 2023 Purple Cap with 27 and 24 wickets, respectively. GT will look to defend their title, given how their form is.
For CSK, the duo of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been their go-to batters, with Conway aggregating 625 runs in 14 innings at an average of 52.08 and his partner Gaikwad contributing 564 runs at an average of 43.38. Shivam Dube, too had a season to remember, as he has been phenomenal in the middle overs scoring 386 runs at a staggering strike rate of 158.84.
In the bowling department, Tushar Deshpande holds the key with 21 wickets in 15 games, while Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana have managed to pick 19 and 17 wickets, respectively. MS Dhoni’s CSK would eye on their fifth IPL title.
