Hardik Pandya career profile, ODI stats, records, and rankings: Everything you need to know
Hardik Pandya, the finest all-rounder in the modern generation cricketers
One of the finest white-ball all-rounders in the modern era, Hardik Pandya, who hails from a small town in Gujarat, was born on October 11, 1993. Hardik Pandya is often compared to big all-round idols Kapil Dev, Imran Khan and Ian Botham. He came into the spotlight after being instrumental for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2015, tasting their second success in the IPL.
Pandya made his ODI debut in 2016 against New Zealand at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. He has overall played 83 games in which he has amassed 1758 runs at an average of 33.80 in 60 innings, while he has taken 80 wickets at an average of 36.03. His batting came to the limelight in the Champions Trophy finals against Pakistan when smacked Imad Wasim all around the park with some scintillating strokes.
He came in when India were troubled at 54/5 inside 15 overs, scoring 76 runs of just 43 balls with six maximums to his name; hesitant running cost his wicket, leaving out India at 158 all out, eventually losing by 180 runs. In the 2023 Asia Cup game against Pakistan, when India was reeling at 66/4, Pandya showed his caution along with aggression with 90 balls 87 to help India post a more than decent total of 266; he was ably supported by Ishan Kishan as the duo added 138 runs for the fifth wicket. He was in and out of the team at some point due to injuries.
Maturing through the years:
In 2022, Hardik Pandya was surprisingly released by Mumbai Indians in the mega auction, but the Gujarat management and Ashish Nehra had other ideas, as Hardik was not only picked by Gujarat but also handed the duty of leading the side. He responded with a magnificent show, leading Gujarat to their first title in the debut season.
He promoted himself to No. 3 and scored 487 runs at an average of 44.27 and struck at 131.26. He also took eight wickets to his name, where three of them came in the finals against Rajasthan Royals. He has captained India in three ODIs with two wins and one loss, while in T20, he has captained 16 games where he won 10 games and lost five games, one game being tied.
