After a dominating series win for India in the T20Is, the action moves to probably the most important ODI series that either team has played in the last 15 months. For the unversed, hosts India (IND) and England (ENG) will play a three-match ODI series. Notably, this will be the last set of ODIs either side will play before the Champions Trophy, to be played in Pakistan and the UAE, respectively.
The first of these three ODIs will be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Both teams have lost their most recent ODI series, but India haven't played an ODI since August 2024 and England since October. So this series provides a crucial opportunity to fine-tune anything that may be lacking between the sides.
India have in general had the upper hand over England in this format with 58 wins over England's 44. India also won the most recent ODI series between the two sides. However, the Three Lions have a greater cause for worry considering the fact that they haven't won an ODI series in India in the last 40 years.

The Nagpur surface has historically been easier to chase down totals on, which can be attributed to the dew among other factors. The pitch itself has been a balanced one having something for everyone.

Player Battles to Watch Out for in India vs England
Jos Buttler vs Mohammed Shami
India's pace ace Mohammed Shami has always managed to have Jos Buttler's number in this format. Buttler has made 57 runs in 67 balls at a strike rate of 85.07 but has been dismissed five times at an average of 11.40 in this format. Coupled with Buttler's generally poor ODI record in India, he could be in for a tough time in this series.
Virat Kohli vs Adil Rashid
This battle has turned out to be a more balanced one as Virat Kohli has made 108 runs from 116 balls at a strike rate of 93.10 while being dismissed thrice at an average of 36. Kohli and Adil Rashid have the most runs and wickets for their sides respectively in ODIs among all players featuring in this series, and this clash of veterans has the potential to turn the game one way or the other.
