A 200-run-stand between Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill followed by Suryakumar Yadav’s masterclass and three wicket-haul by Ashwin helped India beat Australia by 99 runs in a rain-curtailed second ODI against Australia. They won the series 2-0.

Speaking about the game, the visitors won the toss and opted to bowl first. India lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early on, as Josh Hazlewood provided the first wicket for Australia. Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill set the tone for the host with a 200-run stand for the second wicket, both players went on to register their respective centuries with Gill scoring 104 and Iyer scoring 105 runs, respectively.

Skipper KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav stunned the crowd with ruthless power-hitting scoring 52 and 72, respectively. While Ishan Kishan smacked an 18-ball 31, to help India post 399/5. Cameron Green was taken to the cleaners as he ended his expensive spell at 2/103 in 10 overs, while Sean Abbott went for 91 runs in his 10 overs and picked up one wicket. Hazlewood and Zampa were bowled decent spells.

Chasing a massive 400, Australia got off to a horrible start as Prasidh Struck twice in two balls dismissing Matthew Short for 4 and Steven Smith for golden duck. Australia was battling at 56/2 before the rain arrived. As a result, the game was reduced to 33 overs and 317 was set as a target.

David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne added 80 runs for the third wicket before Ravichandran Ashwin cleaned up Labuschagne. Warner soon fell after scoring 53 runs as Ashwin trapped him LBW while in the next over Josh Inglis fell against Ashwin being his third victim. Sean Abbott (54) and Josh Hazlewood added 77 runs for the 9th wicket, but their stand helped only to reduce the margin of defeat as Australia was bowled out for 217, eventually losing the second ODI of the series by 99 runs.
