Australia finished Day 1 on a positive note as they took full advantage of the pitch and managed to take a 47-run lead over India to begin the third Test at the Holkar Stadium, Indore.
Speaking about how the day panned out, Rohit Sharma & Co. won the toss and opted to bat first. Australian Spin trio of Matthew Kuhnermann, Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy rattled the Indian batters by bowling them out for 109 runs in the first innings inside 34 overs.
Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were the only players to score more than 20 runs with the former scoring 22 and the latter scoring 21 respectively. Matthew Kuhnemann registered his maiden five wicket haul only in his second test with the figures of 5/16 from nine overs and was ably supported by Nathan Lyon who picked up three wickets. Todd Murphy, took the wicket of Virat Kohli for the third time in four innings.
In response to India's 109, Australia lost Travis Head early in the second over. However, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne put together 96 runs as Australia went past India with a lead of 47 runs. The left-handed batter was in control as he registered his 21st half-century in Tests and second in this series.
For India, Ravindra Jadeja was instrumental as he was the only bowler to pick wickets with four wickets at Stumps of Day One. Australia ended the day on 156/4.
