India continued to seize the advantage in the first Test of the series against Bangladesh at the renowned MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai. At stumps on Day 2, India lead Bangladesh by 308 runs in their second innings.
Earlier in the morning, Taskin Ahmed triggered a lower-order collapse removing both the overnight batters Ravindra Jadeja (86 off 124) and Ravichandran Ashwin (113 off 133). As a result, India's morning lasted for just 37 runs in 11.2 overs when Hasan Mahmud completed his fifer. India had put on 376. The bowlers of the home side though, never let Bangladesh get on top as they skittled them cheaply for just 149.
Pacer Jasprit Bumrah (4/50) was the wrecker-in-chief with ample contributions from Mohammed Siraj (2/30), Akash Deep (2/19) and Ravindra Jadeja (2 for 19), all claiming two wickets each. After Akash Deep took his two wickets on consecutive deliveries, no Bangladeshi batter put up any sort of a fight, as they were reduced to 92/7 at one point. India chose not to enforce the follow-on and struggled with the bat. Apart from Shubman Gill (33 off 64 batting) no Indian batter really got going with India being 81/3 at stumps and having a healthy lead of 308.
