India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test, Day 5 Stats Review: India's record-extending winning streak and other stats

India completed a resounding win over Bangladesh on the fifth day of the second Test at Kanpur after putting themselves in a dominant position the day before. India also completed a 2-0 whitewash in the series to bolster their position at the WTC 2023-25 points table.

Bangladesh resumed at 26/2 overnight and lost Mominul Haque early to Ravichandran Ashwin. Shadman Islam (50 off 101) and Najmul Hossain Shanto defiantly put up 51 for the fifth wicket, but Ravindra Jadeja (3 for 34), after being introduced, induced a collapse where Bangladesh went from 91/3 to 94/7 in a space of four overs with the left-arm spinner picking three of those wickets. 

Mushfiqur Rahim (37 off 63) put on a second show of defiance to drag the score 146 from the precarious situation, but Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 17) took the last three wickets, including that of the experienced wicketkeeper-batter, to leave India with a fourth innings target of just 95.

The Indian openers came out with the same swinging intent that they had in the first innings, but lost both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill early. Yashasvi Jaiswal (51 off 45) and Virat Kohli (29* off 37) held fort until Jaiswal fell swinging with just 3 runs required to win. After that, it was no hassle as Rishabh Pant hit the winning runs to give India their 18th consecutive Test series win at home.

1 — Shadman Islam became the first Bangladesh opener to score a Test fifty in India.

8, 2 — Yashasvi Jaiswal became the eighth player overall and the second Indian to score 50 or more in both innings of a test at more than run-a-ball. The only Indian, and the first player ever to do so before him, was Virender Sehwag against West Indies at Delhi in 2011. England's Harry Brook is the only player in the world to have done this twice.

18 — India extended their streak of consecutive series wins at home to 18. The next best by any team is by Australia who had two different streaks of 10.

1 — Ravichandran Ashwin won his 11th Man of the Series Award in Tests, putting him level with record-holder Muttiah Muralitharan for winning the most Man of the Series Awards in Test cricket. Muttiah Muralitharan played 60 series, while Ashwin reached the landmark in 39 series.
