Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed his maiden double century while speedster Jasprit Bumrah registered his third-best figures of 6/45 against England on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test match in Visakhapatnam. Jaiswal scored 209 off 290 which included 19 fours and seven maximums while Bumrah’s spell turned out to be his best on home soil.
On Day 2, the 22-year-old left-handed opener Jaiswal struck a magnificent double hundred as he became the third youngest Indian after Vinod Kambli and Sunil Gavaskar to achieve the special feat aged 22y 36d. James Anderson and the spin duo of Shoaib Bashir and Rehan Ahmed all picked up three wickets each as the visitors restricted the home side to a total of below 400 (396).
In reply, opener Zak Crawley top-scored for his side with his quickfire knock of 76 off just 78 with the help of 11 fours and two sixes. Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope scored 21 and 23 runs respectively, while Joe Root bagged a single-digit score as he fell prey to Bumrah, for the eighth time in Test cricket.
Jonny Bairstow amassed 25 runs while captain Ben Stokes hit 47 but both lost their respective wickets to the in-form pacer Bumrah. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav also snared three scalps as England got bowled out for 253. Team India ended the day with a score of 28 with Rohit and Jaiswal remaining unbeaten on 13 and 15 runs respectively. Having a lead of 171 runs, the home side will be looking to add as much as they can when they take the field on Day 3.

22y 36d – Yashasvi Jaiswal became the third youngest Indian to smash a double century in Test cricket aged 22y 36d. Vinod Kambli (21y 32d) and Sunil Gavaskar (21y 277d) are in the top two positions.
152 – Jasprit Bumrah reached the milestone of 150 wickets in Test cricket.
6/45 – Bumrah registered his third-best figures of 6/45 in the longest format of the game and the best figures on home soil. His top two bowling performances of 6/27 and 6/33 came against West Indies (2019) and Australia (2018) in Kingston and Melbourne respectively.
5 – Ollie Pope got dismissed for the fifth time by Bumrah, which is the joint-most he has got out against in the Test format along with New Zealand’s Neil Wagner.
20.28 – Bumrah has the second-best average of 20.28 by a bowler with a minimum of 150 scalps in the Whites. Sydney Barnes is at the top with an average of 16.43
6781 – Bumrah took the fewest balls (6781) by an Indian to reach 150 wickets in Test matches. Umesh Yadav is at the second spot with 7661 deliveries.
209 – Jaiswal has now the highest score of 209 in the current WTC 2023-25 cycle. Saud Shakeel is in the second position for his knock of 208* against Sri Lanka in Galle in July 2023.
15.25 – Wicketkeeper batter Ben Foakes has scored just 122 runs in nine innings at a poor average of 15.25 with no half-century against India.
8 – For the eighth time, Bumrah got rid of Joe Root which is the third joint most along with Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have gotten the better of Root 11 and 10 times respectively.
