Team India (IND) gained a 2-0 lead in the ongoing T20I series against England (ENG) after sealing a very nervous chase in the second T20I, in Chennai. The third T20I will be played in Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot, where the hosts will look to keep their streak of not having lost a T20I series to England since 2014.
Just like in the first game, India won the toss and put England into bat, but the result was slightly different. Pacer Arshdeep Singh struck in the first over as usual, but Jos Buttler kept the charge up making the most of the powerplay even though wickets fell around him. Half of the England side was in the dugout before the 10 over-mark itself. Debutant Jamie Smith alongside Brydon Carse put up a lower-order resistance, but India's spinners still restricted the visitors to a total that looked under par.
India were also dealt early blows, but these were by the pacers. Having lost three wickets in the powerplay itself, the Men in Blue looked in a spot of bother. The home side fell deeper into the hole when half the team was back in the dugout with more than half the runs to go.
Tilak Varma then anchored a chase looking more and more doomed by stitching an important partnership with Washington Sundar. India lost another flurry of wickets, mainly to Carse, but Varma kept his cool and was helped by Ravi Bishnoi with the bat this time to take India home in the last over.
