Ben Duckett smashed the fastest-ever Test hundred in 88 deliveries by an Englishman against India as his side ended Day 2 of the ongoing third match in a commanding position at a score of 207/2 in reply to India’s 445 in Rajkot. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved his milestone of 500 wickets as he became the second Indian after Anil Kumble (619) to achieve the feat.

Speaking in detail about how Day 2 panned out, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja departed early for 112 off 225 off the bowling of part-timer Joe Root. Debutant wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel impressed with his knock of 46 off 104 which included two fours and three maximums. Ashwin also contributed with the bat in the first innings as he scored 37 off 89 while pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah racked up 26 runs.

The home side posted a mammoth total of 445 on the board with Mark Wood being the pick of the England bowlers for his spell of 4/114 in 27.5 overs. In reply, Zak Crawley got dismissed for just 15 but then it was all about pocket-dynamo Ben Duckett. The left-handed opening batter registered his first 50-plus score against India in Tests. Duckett slammed a magnificent quickfire century (133* off just 118) while Ollie Pope headed back to the pavilion after scoring 39. Experienced campaigner Joe Root is in the middle not out on nine along with Duckett. The duo will look to extend England’s score and post a big total on the board in their first innings.
