Skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill smashed their respective centuries as Team India dominated Day Two of the ongoing fifth and final Test match against England at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. Rohit scored 103 while Gill was dismissed for 110 with Sarfaraz Khan and debutant Devdutt Padikkal also hitting their half-centuries. The hosts ended the day at a massive total of 473/8, taking a lead of 255 runs.
On Day Two, captain Rohit brought up his 12th hundred in Test cricket while youngster Gill slammed his fourth hundred in the format. Padikkal and Sarfaraz then joined the party as they also played valuable knocks. The former, on his debut, hit 65 off 103 while Sarfaraz amassed a quickfire 56 off just 60.
The English bowlers toiled hard but the home side kept on scoring runs. At the end of Day’s play, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah remained unbeaten on 27 and 19 runs respectively. Both have played out 55 deliveries each as they look to frustrate the visitors more on Day Three. Spin bowler Shoaib Bashir was the pick of the England bowlers for his spell of 4/170 with five maidens in 44 overs.

48 – Rohit Sharma is now joint-third with Rahul Dravid for most centuries (48) for India in international cricket. Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are in the first and second positions with 100 and 80 tons respectively.
9 – Rohit has now struck the most hundreds (nine) by an opener in Tests since 209. He surpassed Dimuth Karunaratne’s tally of eight centuries.
5 – For the fifth time, the top five Indian batters registered a 50-plus score in a Test innings. The previous four instances came against Australia in Kolkata in 1998, against New Zealand in Mohali in 1999, and against Sri Lanka in Mumbai (BS) in 2009.
15.16 – Shubman Gill got dismissed by James Anderson for the sixth time in Test cricket. The batter averages only 15.16 against the pacer in 12 innings.
43 – Rohit has now also hit the third most hundred (43) by an opener across formats. He went past Chris Gayle’s tally of 42. David Warner and Tendulkar are in the first and second spots with 49 and 45 tons respectively.
4 – Rohit is now joint-top with Sunil Gavaskar for most hundred (four) by an Indian opener against England in Tests.
