New Zealand completed a dominant win over India in the first Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and went 1-0 ahead in the three-match series.

The start of the fifth day was delayed, and as has been the story of the match so far, the pacers came into play right after the rain break. Jasprit Bumrah (2/29) dismissed both the openers in a very probing first hour to incite some hope, but it all fell flat.

On the other side of the Drinks break, first innings hero Rachin Ravindra (39* off 46) and Will Young (48* off 76) played some crisp strokes and New Zealand were home even before Lunch was taken on the final day.

Here are the most important stats from Day 5 of 1st Test between IND and NZ:

3 - This is only New Zealand's third ever Test win in India in 38 attempts.

1988 - The last time New Zealand won a Test in India, when they beat the hosts by 136 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. New Zealand lost 10 and drew 9 matches ever since before this win.

4 - Of the 22 players who played in this match, only four (Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Virat Kohli and Ajaz Patel) were born the last time New Zealand won a Test in India, back in 1988.

3 - Each of New Zealand's Test wins in India have come under a different captain. Graham Dowling led the side when the Kiwis prevailed at Nagpur in 1969. Then, John Wright-led his side to a win at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium in 1988, and now Tom Latham has led the Kiwis to a win at Bengaluru.

2012 - The last time that India lost two home Tests in a single calendar year. In 2012, India had lost two home Tests to England which also marked the last time that they had lost a Test series at home. This year India lost to England at Hyderabad and now to New Zealand at Bengaluru.

2005 - The last time India lost a Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The hosts lost to arch-rivals Pakistan by 168 runs on that occassion. In the interim, India won 5, and drew 3 Tests here.

3 - Rohit Sharma lost his third home Test as captain just his 14th match. Among all Indian captains this century, only MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly lost as many matches at home having captained in 30 and 21 home Tests respectively. No other captain has lost more this century.

2010 - The last time India lost a home Test to a team not called Australia or England. India lost by an innings and 6 runs against South Africa at Nagpur.
