India will host New Zealand for a three-match Test series. The first Test will be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India have been in good form throughout the year, whereas New Zealand have struggled.

India are entering this series on the back of their 5-0 sweep of Bangladesh across two Tests and three T20Is. New Zealand on the other hand were swept 2-0 by Sri Lanka and are struggling to remain in the current World Test Championship cycle. New Zealand have also been dealt a significant blow as they will be missing their former skipper and talisman Kane Williamson for at least the series opener.

India also made news by designating Jasprit Bumrah as the deputy to skipper Rohit Sharma. The news is significant as Sharma could reportedly miss a Test on India's tour to Australia later this year. Mohammed Shami is once again absent from the India squad as he recovers from an injury that has seen him out of action since the ODI World Cup final last year.
