New Zealand and India played out an even contest on the first day of the second Test at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, in Pune on Thursday, October 24.
Opting to bat first on a spinner-friendly track, Devon Conway 76(141) batted beautifully and registered his second fifty on this tour. Rachin Ravindra 65(105), who is in fantastic form, played an excellent innings, which helped New Zealand post a decent total. But the Kiwis didn't get support from any other batters, so they had to settle for a total of 259.
Speaking about India's bowling, Washington Sundar (7/59) bowled a magnificent spell and made a stellar comeback to Test cricket. Ravichandran Ashwin (3/64) bowled superbly and gave excellent support to Sundar. At the end of Day 1, India came to bat for 11 overs and lost their skipper Rohit Sharma for a duck, ending the day at 16/1. Totally, this day belonged to Washington Sundar.
