After winning the three-match T20I series 2-1 against South Africa, team India will now lock horns with the Proteas in a three-match ODI series beginning on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
The series will be the last international assignment for both sides before they head into the all-important T20 World Cup beginning later this month in Australia. Key Indian players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli will be out of action with ODI regular Shikhar Dhawan set to lead the team.
Talking about the T20Is, Suryakumar Yadav continued his blistering form as he smashed two half-centuries to also win the Player of the Series award for amassing 119 runs. For the visitors, wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock also struck two fifties as he ended the series as the highest run-getter with 138 runs. Hard-hitter and experienced player David Miller also looked in fine touch with him also slamming an unbeaten century in the second match.
Dhawan-led Indian team has selected Rahul Tripathi, newbies Rajat Patidar, Mukesh Kumar, and all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed as they look to give them a few chances in the series. Deepak Chahar and Mohammed Siraj are expected to lead the pace attack while spinner Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav are also part of the squad. With the T20 World Cup just round the corner, the ODI games would mean little but it presents a perfect opportunity for the reserve players to make their cases for the future.
