India beat Sri Lanka by four wickets in a competitive encounter to take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 12.

Opting to bat first, Sri Lankan started well with to score of 102/1 in 17 overs courtesy of an impressive debut from Nuwanidu Fernando, who scored a half century. Fernando was ably supported by Kusal Mendis in a 73-run stand.

However, Rohit brought in the spin bowling duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel to control the game. As expected, both the bowlers did not disappoint the captain and reduced Sri Lanka from 102/1 to 126/6. Sri Lankan lower-order batters put up some fight, but at the end Mohammed Siraj made sure Sri Lanka were bundled out for 215 inside 40 overs. Kuldeep and Mohammed scalped three wickets each.

In response, the Indian top order struggled as they were reduced to 86/4 at one stage. However, the experienced duo of KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya made sure India recovered, adding 75 runs for the fifth wicket. Pandya, though, was dismissed when the score was 161, but Rahul made sure the chase was in full control by notching up his 12th ODI fifty and eventually winning the match by four wickets to seal the series for his team.
