The most awaited sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League is set to kick-start on March 31, 2023, at the famous Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The defending champions Gujarat Titans will face the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings in the curtain raiser. After three long seasons, the Indian Premier League will have the home-and-away format yet again.

For the first time in the history of IPL, no-balls and wide calls made by the on-field umpires will be challenged by the players. The sixteenth edition of IPL will witness a new rule called the Impact Player rule and the playing XIs can be decided after the toss.

The Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat had the best of IPL in their first season as they won ten games during the group stage. It was an entire team effort, every individual chipped in with runs and wickets in different situations.

The addition of Kane Williamson has given an extra balance to the already good-looking batting unit of Gujarat Titans. Gujarat will miss the services of their key player David Miller in the first match due to his national commitments. Shubman Gill has been very impressive in 2023 and would look to carry his red-hot form going into the IPL to help Gujarat defend the title.

Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, had an IPL to forget in 2022 and it was just the second time they failed to qualify for the playoffs. The return of Deepak Chahar and the addition of Ben Stokes would see the balance in both departments and will also brighten their chances of winning more matches in the upcoming edition.

New Zealand opening batter Devon Conway is in sublime form this year and would look to continue his form going forward. MS Dhoni will most likely be seen in yellow-jersey one last time this season and if it turns out to be the case then he would love to end his IPL career on a high.

Meanwhile, let us look at the stats and numbers ahead of the Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings clash.
