IPL 2024: Eliminator, Stats Review: Most runs in IPL and other stats from RR vs RCB
RCB lost their third eliminator in five attempts.
Royal Challengers Benagluru's incredible run in IPL 2024 came to a shattering halt as they lost the eliminator to finish fourth in IPL 2024. Rajasthan Royals finally won a match in this month and will now take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chennai in the Qualifier to stake a claim to challenging Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.
Put in to bat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, RCB started cautiously against Trent Boult (1 for 16) on a surface doing loads early. Virat Kohli (33 off 24) made an early contribution, but a spirited R Ashwin (2 for 19) put the brakes on RCB from which they never fully recovered. Rajat Patidar (34 off 22) and Mahipal Lomror (32 off 17) tried their best but that pushed RCB only to 172 as Avesh Khan (3 for 44) came back for an excellent death-over spell. Dinesh Karthik's non-dismissal on the first ball he faced created outrage in the RR camp after some dubious decision-making from the third umpire. Rovman Powell enjoyed a stellar day in the field taking four catches.

On a surface that had dew at the beginning of the chase, RR too started sedately, but once Yashasvi Jaiswal (45 off 30) was dropped early, a flurry of boundaries was unleashed that made it look like easy work for RR. But RCB pulled it back in the middle overs with the crucial wickets of Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel in a touch-and-go runout.
The middle-order comeback was orchestrated mainly by Cameron Green (1 for 28) and Lockie Ferguson (1 for 37). RR looked in trouble when 47 runs were needed from the last 5 overs but Cameron Green conceded 17 in the 16th over and that seemed to have turned the result into a foregone conclusion. The dew had almost subsided by this point and an 11 run over by Yash Dayal turned it bleak for RCB before Mohammed Siraj (2 for 33) removed both Shimron Hetmyer (26 off 14) and Riyan Parag (36 off 26) in the same over. And with 13 runs required off 12 balls, Rovman Powell went 4,4,0,0,0,6 against Lockie Ferguson as RR won an Eliminator for the first time in their IPL history.
