At Kolkata in match no. 42 of IPL 2024, a run fest was on the cards. Both teams made totals in excess of 260 and as many as 42 sixes were hit in the entire match.

Punjab Kings elected to field first and then were greeted by a full-on assault from Phil Salt (75 off 37) and Sunil Narine (71 off 32). Even after KKR's opening pair departed, Venkatesh Iyer (39 off 23), Shreyas Iyer (28 off 10) and Andre Russell (24 off 12) kept up the tempo and managed to take KKR to 261/6, a total that would seem enough at the halfway stage.

PBKS and particularly Prabhsimran Singh (54 off 20) started off in aggressive fashion and racked up 93 in the powerplay at the end of which, Prabhsimran was run out. But PBKS still didn't look like they were in the game when Rilee Rossouw. Jonny Bairstow (108 off 48) held fort on one end until Shashank Singh (68 off 28) joined him and unleashed a carnage of a partnership putting up an unbeaten 84 runs in 37 balls and PBKS chased down what looked like a daunting 262. Amidst PBKS' carnage, Sunil Narine (1 for 24) stepped up with the ball going at just 6 runs per over.
