In match No.14 of IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians suffered a third consecutive loss as Rajasthan Royals cruised comfortably to a win by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bowl first, and the faith was repaid immediately. Trent Boult (4-0-22-3) removed Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir (both 0 off 1) in the first over. Boult then came back to take his third wicket in his second over and Mumbai Indians' wheels just came off.
Skipper Hardik Pandya (34 off 21) tried his best to steady the ship, but Yuzvendra Chahal(4-0-11-3) got the better of him and MI could only muster 125/9.
Rajasthan Royals at no point in their chase looked like they would be losing the match, Akash Madhwal (4-0-20-3) took the fight to them but it wasn't enough as Riyan Parag (54 off 39) made even shorter work of an already short chase.
The important stats and records from this game are:
17 - While the record is likely to change hands, Rohit Sharma scored his 17th duck in the IPL, equalling the record held by Dinesh Karthik.
5 - This was the fifth instance of Trent Boult taking two wickets in the first over of an IPL innings. The only other player with more than one such instance is Praveen Kumar.
20 - Yuzvendra Chahal took his twentieth three-for in the IPL matching the record set by Jasprit Bumrah, who had an opportunity, but could not make full use of it.
10 - R Ashwin became just the 10th player to play 200 IPL matches. Incidentally, all ten of these players are Indian.
150 - Yashasvi Jaiswal breached the milestone of 150 IPL fours.
125/9 - 125 is the joint lowest total for MI at the Wankhede Stadium.
50 - Avesh Khan played his 50th IPL match.
