The much-anticipated rivalry match began with CSK winning the toss and electing to bowl first, giving Bengaluru an opportunity to set a challenging total in the first innings.
RCB's innings started on an aggressive note, with Phil Salt providing a blistering start by scoring 32 runs off just 16 balls. Virat Kohli followed with a solid 31, while Devdutt Padikkal contributed 27 runs. The standout performance came from Rajat Patidar, who notched up his maiden IPL fifty as a captain, scoring 51 runs off 32 balls. The inning was given a final push by Tim David, who played a fiery cameo, smashing 22 runs off just 8 balls, while Jitesh Sharma also made 12 off 6. At the end, RCB posted a formidable total of 196/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Chennai Super Kings had a disappointing start to their chase, losing early wickets. Rahul Tripathi managed only 5 runs, while captain Ruturaj Gaikwad departed for a duck. Deepak Hooda struggled, scoring just 4 runs off 9 balls, leaving CSK reeling at 26/3 in 4.4 overs. The young talent Rachin Ravindra showed resilience, scoring 41 runs, but his efforts were not enough to bring CSK back into the game. Towards the end, MS Dhoni provided some entertainment with his 30-run knock, but the Super Kings could only manage 146/8 in their 20 overs, eventually falling short of the target by a huge margin.
