IPL 2025: GT vs MI, Match 9 - Stats preview of players' records and approaching milestones

Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians will look to put their losses in their respective opening games of Indian Premier League 2025 behind and get back to winning ways.

MI faced storied arch-rivals CSK in their first game, and it did not go very well. Khaleel Ahmed in the powerplay, and Noor Ahmad in the middle, did not give any of the batters any room throughout the innings. It took some death overs hitting from Deepak Chahar to give MI any semblance of a total they could realistically look to defend. 

Ruturaj Gaikwad went for the small target from the word go, and when he was dismissed, CSK had knocked off half the target. Vignesh Puthur playing his first senior level match ever, then got to work taking 3 important wickets that put CSK on the backfoot. Despite this collapse, Rachin Ravindra stayed through like a rock and CSK were home in the final over. 

GT started their season by losing a home game to the Punjab Kings. It wasn't as close as the scoreboard would suggest, despite the close result margin. The run-fest was set in motion Priyansh Arya and later carried out by PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer despite a middle order collapse. Shashank Singh provided some final over fireworks to take PBKS to a daunting 243. 

Gujarat Titans' reply was led by B Sai Sudharsan and he was supported well by fellow half-centurion Jos Buttler. GT were cruising along on the chase with Sherfane Rutherford taking up the mantle, but PBKS' Impact Player Vijaykumar Vyshak bowled two very quiet overs that meant GT had too much left to do at the end. The Ahmedabad-based franchise will look to avoid starting their IPL season with two home losses on the trot.
