IPL 2025: MI vs LSG, Match 45 - Stats preview of players' records and approaching milestones
MI have found a new lease of life in IPL 2025.
Both Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants have the same number of wins from the same number of matches in the IPL 2025. However, one team is arguably more confident coming into this game.
After a horror start to their campaign, Mumbai Indians have won four matches in a row and bulldozed their way into the top half of the points table. This run of four wins has also given MI a significant net run rate boost. In their previous game, MI completed the season double over SRH.
At Hyderabad, Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar were all over SRH with their double strikes in the powerplay. SRH were in danger of being bowled out for a very low total after losing half their side for just 35 runs. Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar then got into rescue mode. Boult came back to strike in the death overs, and that was that. Rohit Sharma scored his second consecutive seventy-plus of the season to take MI home in an easy chase, made even easier by Suryakumar Yadav’s finishing touches.
LSG, on the other hand, conceded the season double to DC in their last game. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram built a strong opening partnership, but Mukesh Kumar’s four-wicket haul threw a wrench in the plans as LSG’s middle order, barring Ayush Badoni, came undone once again. On a slow Lucknow track, Abhishek Porel and KL Rahul made fifties in the chase, and skipper Axar Patel also chipped in with a handy cameo.
This fixture is also a repeat one. MI’s loss to LSG earlier was a rather eventful affair. Marsh and Markram once again gave LSG a solid base to work from, but their middle order lost their way against Hardik Pandya’s fifer. Pandya was the only MI bowler who made any significant impact. MI’s openers fell early in the chase, but Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir brought them back into the game. Pandya took over the mantle of the chase towards the end, but the big talking point was Tilak Varma’s struggles and his eventual retirement out. Eventually, LSG came out on the right side of a tight defence orchestrated by Digvesh Rathi.
