Mumbai Indians continued their meteoric rise in IPL 2025 after getting the better of the Lucknow Super Giants in Mumbai during Match 45 of the tournament.

MI were sent in to bat and Ryan Rickelton (58 off 32) obliged. Will Jacks got a start, but Rickelton's good work was continued by Suryakumar Yadav (54 off 28). Mayank Yadav (2/40) took important wickets of an aggressive Rohit Sharma and Yadav, but MI still managed a strong finish. Corbin Bosch (20 off 10) and Naman Dhir (25* off 11) played important cameos to set LSG a record chase.

LSG's batters started the chase with promise, but once Jasprit Bumrah (4/22) drew first blood, MI kept clawing their way back in. The big decisive blow of the chase came when Jacks (2/18) got both Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant in the same over. Trent Boult (3/20) dismissed Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni, both of whom had gotten starts. Bumrah returned to take three wickets in an over, and the result was a formality.

Here are the important numbers from the game:

17 – Suryakumar Yadav became the 17th player to score 4,000 runs in the IPL.

3 – By the number of balls taken to the milestone, Suryakumar Yadav became the third-fastest overall and the fastest Indian to score 4,000 runs in the IPL. Yadav took 2,714 balls to the milestone. In joint first place are Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, both of whom took 2,658 balls each.

3 – Suryakumar Yadav's career strike rate of 147.55 is the third-best of all players with a minimum of 4,000 runs in the IPL. de Villiers and Gayle take the first two spots in that order.

3 – This match was only the third time in IPL history that five players from the same team have conceded 40 runs or more in one match, as LSG's bowlers did today. The last two instances also came this season — by RR's bowlers against SRH and by SRH's bowlers against PBKS.

1 – Jasprit Bumrah moved up to the top spot as the highest wicket-taker for MI in IPL history. Bumrah now has 174 wickets for the 2020 champions. He overtook Lasith Malinga, who had 170.

16 – MI have won all 16 matches where they have had to defend a total over 200 in the IPL. In fact, they are the only active team to have never lost while defending 200 or more.

1 – MI became the first team to win 150 IPL matches. CSK, with 140, are next.
