In a power-packed encounter at the IPL 2025, Punjab Kings emerged victorious over Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs at the Mullanpur Stadium. With this win, Punjab strengthened their position in the top half of the table, climbing to fourth with three wins from four matches.
Batting first, Punjab Kings posted an imposing total of 219/6 in their 20 overs. The highlight of the innings was a sensational knock from Priyansh Arya, who smashed 103 runs off just 42 balls, including 7 fours and 9 sixes at a strike rate of 245.24. Despite losing early wickets, Arya’s counterattack put Punjab in command. Marco Jansen (34* off 19) and Shashank Singh (52* off 36) provided important contributions.
Chennai's bowlers struggled on a batting-friendly surface. Khaleel Ahmed (2/45) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2/48) were the only bowlers with some impact.
Chasing 220, Chennai Super Kings gave a strong fight but ultimately fell short, finishing at 201/5. Rachin Ravindra (36 off 23) and Devon Conway (69* retired out off 49) provided a solid base. However, timely breakthroughs by Punjab’s bowlers, especially Lockie Ferguson (2/40) and Yash Thakur (1/39), pegged CSK back. Despite MS Dhoni’s vintage cameo (27 off 12), Chennai couldn't close the gap.
Punjab’s bowlers held their nerve under pressure, with Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen keeping things tight in the death overs. The victory pushed Chennai further down the standings, now 9th with just one win in five games and a worrying NRR of -0.889.
