In the 18th match of the Indian Premier League 2025, Punjab Kings took on Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. PBKS, riding high on confidence after winning both their opening games, won the toss and opted to bowl first. On the other hand, RR came into the match with just one win out of their first three games and desperately needed a turnaround.
RR got off to a flying start in the powerplay, scoring 53 runs without losing a wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had struggled in the initial matches, found his rhythm and anchored the innings beautifully with a commanding knock of 67 runs off 45 balls. In the death overs, Riyan Parag (43* off 25) and Shimron Hetmyer (20 off 12) provided the finishing touches with explosive cameos, taking RR to an imposing total of 205/4 in their 20 overs.
Punjab Kings’ chase got off to a disastrous start as Jofra Archer struck on the very first ball, dismissing Priyansh Arya for a golden duck. Later in the same over, Archer removed PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer (10 off 5), dealing a major blow. At the end of the powerplay, PBKS were struggling at 43/4 and never quite recovered from the early setbacks.
Despite a fighting half-century from Nehal Wadhera, none of the other batters could build partnerships or keep up with the required rate. RR’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding ensured Punjab never got back into the game. PBKS eventually finished at 155/9, handing Rajasthan Royals a thumping 50-run win.
