Third-placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will host eighth-placed Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match No. 42 of IPL 2025. The match will be held in Bengaluru, a venue where they are yet to secure a win in this tournament.
RCB's home 'dis'advantage has been a talking point this season, but their last game was a breeze. PBKS' openers got off to a flier in Mullanpur, but RCB struck back. Krunal Pandya removed both openers and Suyash Sharma compounded the damage to contribute a middle order collapse. Punjab didn't lose many wickets at the death, but couldn't make too many runs and finished with a below par total.
Phil Salt fell early, but Devdutt Padikkal went after the bowling and RCB were on the victory path. Virat Kohli played an ideal second fiddle but picked up the pace after Padikkal fell and RCB got home in the 19th over.
RR's previous game was a thriller against LSG in Lucknow. Aiden Markram and Ayush Badoni made fifties to restore a batting collapse, and Abdul Samad hit four sixes in the last over to give LSG what looked like a barely par total. 14-year old debutant Vaibhav Suryavanshi hit a six off the first ball he faced in the IPL, and put up a commanding opening partnership with half-centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Jasiwal's dismissal triggered a collapse that saw RR lose the plot badly. Avesh Khan struck at the right time with important middle order wickets and was tasked with defending nine runs in the final over. Avesh removed Hetmyer halfway into the over and eventually brought the equation to four runs required off the last ball. He promptly defended those runs and RR were consigned to their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament.
RCB have a mathematical chance of going as high as first on the points table in this game, while RR will want to settle some scores from the reverse fixture. That game had a similar trajectory to RCB's win over PBKS in Mullanpur. Yashasvi Jaiswal's excellent fifty amidst some tight bowling from RCB gave RR a middling total to work with in Jaipur.
Phil Salt scored his own fifty within the powerplay and that was enough to put RR out of the game. Virat Kohli made his own fifty, and Devdutt Padikkal put in the finishing touches on the chase.
