Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) started their Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) campaign by picking up where they left off in IPL 2024. Rajasthan Royals (RR) were now at the receiving end of the SRH batting juggernaut that has terrorized teams since the start of last year.

SRH's famed opening pair "Travishek" (Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma), started the only way they knew how—hammer and tongs from ball one. Abhishek fell early, but Travis Head (67 off 31) kept going until his dismissal. However, the day belonged to Ishan Kishan (106* off 47), who notched up his first IPL century in his first match for SRH. Kishan received valuable support from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen to lead SRH to a monstrous total of 286/6.

RR got off to a disastrous start, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and stand-in skipper Riyan Parag in the same over to Simarjeet Singh. Nitish Rana followed soon after. Sanju Samson (66 off 37), who was playing as the Impact Player owing to a finger injury, kept up the tempo in the company of Dhruv Jurel (70 off 35). While RR kept their scoreboard ticking, the target always seemed out of reach. Although Shimron Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey elicited hope, RR eventually fell short.

Here are the most important stats from the game:

4 - Considering only the youngest appearance for each player, Riyan Parag is the fourth-youngest captain in IPL history at 23 years and 133 days old.

5 - SRH's 94/1 in the powerplay in this match is the fifth-highest powerplay total in IPL history. SRH has three of the top five entries, including each of the top two.

1 - Ishan Kishan became the first Indian player to score an IPL century for SRH. The previous centurions for SRH included David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Heinrich Klaasen, Harry Brook, and Travis Head.

2 - Ishan Kishan's century is the joint second-fastest century by an Indian player in the IPL. Yusuf Pathan made a 37-ball hundred against MI in 2010, while Mayank Agarwal took 45 balls—the same as Kishan today—against RR in 2020.

3 - Kishan's century is the third-fastest for SRH in IPL history, behind Travis Head's 39-ball effort against RCB in 2024 and David Warner's 43-ball vigil against KKR in 2017.

4 - Ishan Kishan is the fourth player to score a century in his first match for a particular IPL franchise. The others were Brendon McCullum for KKR in 2008, Michael Hussey for CSK in 2008, and Chris Gayle for RCB in 2011. McCullum and Hussey were making their IPL debuts in those respective matches.

89 - The number of matches Ishan Kishan played for MI without scoring a century before getting one in his first game for SRH.

1 - SRH brought up their team 200 in just 14.1 overs, the joint-fastest for any team. RCB had also taken as many overs against Punjab Kings in 2016.

2 - SRH's total of 208 at the 15-over mark is the second-highest ever in the IPL. In that game against PBKS in 2016, RCB had put up 211 after 15 overs of their innings.

1 - Jofra Archer's figures of 0/76 are the most expensive in IPL history, surpassing Mohit Sharma's 73-run battering against DC in 2024.

2 - SRH's total of 286 is the second-highest in IPL history, behind their own 287 against RCB in 2024.

1 - Sanju Samson has the joint-most fifty-plus scores for RR in IPL history with 25, the same number as Jos Buttler.

1 - RR's 242/6 is their highest total in the IPL, breaking their previous record of 226/6 set against PBKS in 2020.

2 - The match aggregate of 529 is the second-highest, not just in IPL history but in T20 history as well. The highest is 549, achieved when RCB responded to SRH's 287 with 262 of their own in Bengaluru in 2024.

5 - RR's 242 is the fifth-highest second-innings total in IPL history. Of the top five entries on this list, four have come in losing causes.
