England are crowned champions of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 following their win over Pakistan in the summit clash at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The phenomenal performances put up by the team throughout the marquee event have paid off for the side as they lift their second-ever T20 Word Cup title.
Sam Curran relished a magnificent campaign with the national side as he ended up being adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ and the ‘Player of the Tournament’. With this, the player became the first ever to do so in the history of an ICC event.
The 24-year-old took 13 wickets in the tournament that included a magical spell of 3/12 in four overs against the Men in Green in the finals. Furthermore, the pacer also relished a fifer earlier in the tournament against Afghanistan.
England's dominance in white-ball cricket
The Three Lions beat Pakistan by five wickets to clinch their second-ever T20 World Cup title. The last time they had won the title was back in 2010 under the captaincy of Paul Collingwood in the West Indies.
With two T20 World titles, the English side has now equalized the most number of T20 World Cup Trophies won by any team along with the West Indies, who were the first side to achieve such a feat (2012 and 2016). With this, England are arguably the best side in the white-ball format as they are also the reigning 50-over World Champions.
They also clinched the 2019 Cricket World Cup title by beating the Kiwis at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. With this, England have become the first Men's team to hold the ODI and the T20 World Cup titles at the same time. Interestingly, Ben Stokes was instrumental in the side winning the 50-over competition and played a similar role by helping the side in winning the T20 World Cup 2022 final with his remarkable knock as well.
