A clinical bowling display followed by Yashavi Jaiswal’s knock of 98* saw Rajasthan Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by a margin of nine wickets in match number 56 of the Indian Premier League 2023.
The visitors won the toss, as Sanju Samson & Co. opted to bowl first. Trent Boult drew the first blood as Jason Roy departed in the third over after an 8-ball-10-runs stint. Soon, Boult sent back Rahmanullah Gurbaz for 18 runs in the fifth over. Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana kept the scoreboard ticking by adding 48 runs for the third wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal broke the third-wicket partnership by picking skipper Rana to become the highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament. In response, RR got off to a good start as Jaiswal smashed Rana for 26 runs in the first over of the innings. Jaiswal kept the scoreboard ticking after Jos Buttler's unfortunate run out, as he along with skipper Sanju Samson, added 121 runs for the second wicket to seal the match in RR's favour. In the process, Jaiswal also smashed the fastest fifty in the history of IPL and went on to score 98 runs off just 47 deliveries, which included 13 fours and five maximums, helping RR chase the target in 13.1 overs.
