In the 14th match of IPL 2024, five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In a striking similarity to DC vs CSK in Match 13, the home team enters this game with two losses in two matches both of which were away games and the home team comes into this contest with two wins in two matches both of which were home games. 

Mumbai Indians lost both their matches while chasing totals of varying degrees. They fell agonisingly short chasing 168 against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, but then conceded the highest team total of all time in the IPL against Sunrisers Hyderabad which they promptly failed to chase but got very close.

Rajasthan Royals on the other hand, put up totals in excess of 180 in both their matches and managed to succesfully defend the target both times. MI will hope that their return to their home ground will bring in a change of fortunes for them.

Wankhede Stadium has always been known to give the flattest of pitches that result in very high scores, especially since last year, and this game will not be any different. While it is still the first match at this stadium in this year’s IPL, there is no indication of the Wankhede slowing down, especially after seeing the general high scores in this year’s IPL.

India's all-format captain has batted almost an entire T20 innings(117 balls) against the off-spinner. In this time he has scored just 105 runs and been dismissed thrice. With Sharma trying to take an aggressive look this year, this match-up will play a key role if Rajasthan Royals want to constrict him.

Jasprit Bumrah has been MI's best bowler in their two matches so far. On a surface as flat as the Wankhede Stadium, he will be the most important cog in the wheel in controlling the damage that can be done with the bat. 

Rajasthan Royals:

Jos Buttler's good record against MI and at this stadium makes him the biggest threat that MI need to counter even if he is out of form. RR will also hope he comes good finally and delivers the way he has been against MI, especially all these years.
