Mohammed Shami career profiles, ODI stats, records, and rankings: Everything you need to know
Mohammed Shami holds a special record of picking up a hat-trick for team India in ODI cricket.
Mohammed Shami, one of India’s finest pace bowlers, was born on September 03 1990 in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. The 33-year-old right-arm seamer has been Team India’s regular member in all three formats in recent years courtesy of his consistent performances. Shami has managed to bag over 400 wickets for his country across formats with one of his notable achievements being a hat-trick in the ODI format.
The fast bowler made his international debut for the Men in Blue by featuring in an ODI against Pakistan in Delhi in January 2013. Later in that year, the pacer made his maiden appearance in Test format by playing against West Indies in the month of November. Soon he was also selected in the shortest international format when he first took the field against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2014.
Shami has been India’s go-to bowler for some time as he has delivered in the Blue and White jerseys with his supreme seam bowling. Talking about his ODI record, he has 176 wickets to his name at an average of 25.09. As mentioned above, he is one of the four Indians to pick up a hat-trick in the 50-overs format.
He achieved the special feat against Afghanistan in Southampton in the 2019 World Cup. The other three Indians to have managed to do the job are Chetan Sharma, Kapil Dev, and Kuldeep Yadav (twice). Six shy of reaching the landmark of 100 ODI matches, Shami has the seventh-most wickets by an Indian pacer in one-day internationals. Ahead of him on the list are some prominent names such as Javagal Srinath, Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, Kapil Dev, Venkatesh Prasad, and Irfan Pathan.
Notably, Shami is the quickest Indian to have reached the milestone of 100 and 150 wickets in ODIs. The pace bowler got to a century of wickets in his 56th match while Jasprit Bumrah did the same in his 57th. Shami touched the 150-wicket mark in his 80th appearance while spinner Kuldeep Yadav is second on the list for achieving the feat in his 88th ODI game. Shami recently grabbed his career-best figures of 5/51 against Australia in Mohali.
