The ongoing series between India and New Zealand has been a wake-up call for the hosts. The first innings of the Bengaluru Test, saw the hosts register their lowest total at home in Tests. The second game saw India getting blown away by the guile and expertise of Mitchell Santner, which led to a 12-year run which saw India winning 18 series on the trot getting blown apart.

However, India's first innings during the third and final Test of the series saw three of their players getting dismissed on a duck. With this, the tally rose to an astonishing 13 in the series, with one innings still left to transpire. Notably, Akash Deep's run-out which was India's final wicket to fall with them accruing 263 was India's 13th duck during the series, becoming the highest number of ducks registered by India in any Test series of three or fewer matches.

The previous highest number of ducks they registered was during a calamitous tour to England dating back to 1974. This particular series has been particularly embarrassing and perplexing when it comes to how the Indian batters have succumbed to spin. This was mainly due to most of the batters being proficient against spinners otherwise, particularly when it comes to playing on home soil.

Five out of the 13 ducks were recorded during the aforementioned Bengaluru Test, where the hosts India were shot out for a mere 46 runs. Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin were the players who failed to get off the mark.
