Two of the most in-form sides, New Zealand (NZ) and South Africa (SA) go toe-to-toe with each other in the ongoing sixteenth edition of the World Cup. The thrilling encounter (Match No. 32) is all set to take place on Wednesday, November 01, 2023, at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The mighty Kiwis are placed in the third position on the table, while the Proteas have occupied the second spot.

The runners-up from the last two editions in 2015 and 2019, the New Zealanders began the current campaign in fine fashion as they won all of their opening four fixtures against defending champions England, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The Black Caps then suffered their first defeat against the host nation India in the picturesque Dharamsala.

They then went on to lose an exciting and enthralling high-scoring game against their Trans-Tasman rivals, Australia, by just five runs at the very same venue. On the other hand, the Proteas started off their campaign with two wins in the opening two matches against Sri Lanka and the Aussies. They were then handed a shocking defeat at the hands of the Netherlands in Dharamsala.

The Africans then bounced back and have now won three in a row against England, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. The New Zealanders have a solid and dominating record of six victories in eight WC matches against the Africans. There are also murmurs that their regular skipper Kane Williamson, who is suffering from a thumb injury, might have recovered and feature in this tie.
