Five bowlers picked up two wickets each as team India bowled out arch-rivals Pakistan cheaply for just 191, eventually winning the high-voltage World Cup encounter by seven wickets at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chasing just 192 for yet another victory over their fiercest rivals, skipper Rohit Sharma led his side from the front by smashing 86 off just 63, which included six fours and as many maximums.
Speaking about how match No. 12 of the sixteenth edition of the WC panned out, captain Rohit won the toss, and the host nation elected to field first at the biggest cricket stadium in the world. Pacer Mohammed Siraj drew first blood as he dismissed Abdullah Shafique for 20. His opening partner Imam-ul-Haq scored 36 while skipper Babar Azam registered his first half-century against India in ODIs. Babar racked up 50 before getting bowled off the delivery of Siraj. Mohammad Rizwan looked in great nick yet again as he amassed 49 of 69 with the help of seven fours.
Speedster Jasprit Bumrah got rid of a well-settled Rizwan, while the other Pakistani players failed to contribute to their side. The Men in Green suffered a terrible collapse from being 155/3 at one stage to getting bundled out for below 200. Except for Shardul Thakur, all other bowlers snared two scalps each as Pakistan struggled in yet another blockbuster WC encounter against India. Talking about the run-chase, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 53 and 19 runs, respectively, as the duo guided their team to a convincing win. With this, the home side has now won all of their opening three fixtures in this WC as they top the table with six points. For figures of 2/19 (seven), Bumrah bagged the Player of the Match award.
