Pakistan vs Afghanistan Head to Head Record in ODI World Cup History

Pakistan (PAK) and Afghanistan (AFG)  faced each other in the 22th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai where the Afghans sealed a memorable and epic victory over the Pakistanis by eight wickets. 

Pakistan entered this match with a record of two wins and two losses as they needed a win to keep their campaign on track. They lost to Australia in their previous match in a high-scoring game by 62 runs, with Shaheen Afridi picking up five wickets and Haris Rauf taking three.

With the bat, Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq scored half-centuries and provided a good start with a 134-run opening stand while Mohammad Rizwan played a 46-run knock in the middle. However, that was not enough to help them chase a big target. Abdullah Shafique and Rizwan have been very impressive in the tournament for Pakistan but the team has now lost three games on the bounce. 

Meanwhile, Afghanistan came into the match with only one win and three losses, but still managed to beat their neighbors in Chennai. They lost their previous match to New Zealand by a significant margin of 149 runs. Despite restricting New Zealand to 288 with Azmatullah Omarzai and Naveen-ul-Haq picking two wickets each, Afghanistan fell short in the chase, getting all-out for only 139. 

Speaking about how they registered their first-ever win over Pakistan in ODI format, the Afghans restricted their opposition at 282/7 in 50 overs. In reply, openers Rahmanullah Gurbad and Ibrahim Zadran struck 65 and 87 runs respectively while veteran Rahmat Shah remained unbeaten on 77 to guide his side to a famous win.
