Pakistan vs England, 3rd Test Stats Review: England’s dominant reign under McCullum and Stokes, Rehan Ahmed’s feat and other stats

England continued their sheer dominance under red-ball head coach Brendon McCullum and skipper Ben Stokes as they defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the third and final Test in Karachi to script a historic whitewash of 3-0.

Chasing a target of 167, Ben Duckett remained unbeaten on 82 off 78 on Day 4 to seal the deal for the visitors. The English side has now won nine out of the ten matches played under the new coach-captain duo.

Earlier, captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bat first. Spinner Rehan Ahmed became the youngest player to debut for England in Tests aged 18 years and 126 days. Babar and Agha Salman scored 78 and 56 runs respectively as the hosts got bowled out for 304 in their first innings.

Jack Leach was the pick of the bowlers for the tourists for his spell of 4/140. Ollie Pope amassed 51 while young Harry Brook showed his class once again as he registered his third century in as many Tests of the series.

The Youngster struck 111 with wicketkeeper batter Ben Foakes scoring 64 to take England’s total to 354. Spinners Abrar Ahmed and Nauman Ali picked up four scalps each for the home side.

Babar smashed his second fifty of the game while Saud Shakeel also hit 53 but it was teenager Rehan who stole the show in the second innings. He became the youngest debutant to pick a five-wicket haul (5/48) in Test cricket as Pakistan got bundled out for just 216.

The visitors finished off the run-chase in 28.1 overs as they Bazballed the Asian side in their own den. England became the first-ever side to clean-sweep Pakistan in Pakistan in a Test series. Brook won the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series award for smashing 468 runs in five innings with three tons and one fifty.

18y 126d – Rehan Ahmed became the youngest debutant (18y 126d) to pick a five-wicket haul in a Test innings. Previously, Pat Cummins had achieved the feat against South Africa in 2011 aged 18y 193d.

24 – Babar Azam is now joint-top with Ricky Ponting for smashing the most 50-plus scores (24) as a captain in international cricket in a calendar year. Ponting hit as many scores in the year 2005.

10 – Babar has slammed the most 50-plus scores (ten) in Tests in 2022. He went past Usman Khawaja’s tally of nine.

89 – The English side has now smashed the most maximums (89) in Tests in a calendar year. It surpassed India’s tally of 87 sixes (2021).

93.60 – Brook scored 468 runs in five innings at a staggering average of 93.60 with three centuries and one fifty and was declared the Player of the Series.

9 – England recorded their joint-second most wins (nine) in Tests in a calendar year. They won as many matches in 2010. Their 11 victories in the year 2004 tops the chart.
