All-round display from the bowlers followed by a steady 67 off 49 from Shubman Gill saw Gujarat Titans (GT) defeat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets in match 18 of Indian Premier League 2023 in Mohali.
Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to field first and pacer Mohammed Shami drew the first blood in the very first over as PrabhaSimran Singh departed for a duck. Soon Joshua Little sent skipper Shikhar Dhawan packing in the fourth over.
Matthew Short kept things going along with Bhanuka Rajapaksa as the duo added 27 more for third wicket. However, Rashid Khan ended the Short’s short stay just after the powerplay as he departed for a well-made 24-ball-36 that included six fours and a six.
The middle-order batters Rajapaksa (20 off 26), Jitesh Sharma (25 off 23), Shahrukh Khan (22 off nine) and Sam Curran (22 off 22) helped PBKS post a manageable total of 153/8 in 20 overs. For GT, Mohit Sharma was brilliant in his comeback, picking two wickets for 18 runs in his four overs.
Chasing 154, the Titans got off to a flier as the openers toyed with Punjab bowlers in the powerplay, scoring 48 runs in 4.4 overs. However, Kagiso Rabada broke the partnership by picking Wriddhiman Saha, who became his 100th IPL victim. In-form Sai Sudharsan joined the party along with Shubman Gill as the duo added 41 for the second wicket.
Arshdeep Singh broke the second-wicket stand by sending back Sudharsan for 19 off 20. Harpreet Brar then ended the skipper Hardik Pandya’s short stay, picking him for eight runs. However, Gill Kept the scoreboard ticking as he scored his 16th IPL fifty. He added 42 runs with David Miller to keep his team on track.
But PBKS bowlers bowled some tight overs in the middle, taking the match till the last over. Curran cleaned up Gill in the last over, leaving GT with four runs to get in two balls. Rahul Tewatia finished the proceedings with a scoop over fine-leg to take GT over the line.

28 - Rashid Khan (28) surpassed Mohammed Shami to become the leading wicket-taker for GT in IPL.
