Prithvi Shaw continued his good form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy tournament and broke several records while batting against Assam with his 379-run knock. Though he missed out on a quadruple hundred after being dismissed by Riyan Parag on Wednesday, January 11, he registered his name in record books by smashing the second-highest individual score in Ranji Trophy history.
Mumbai and Assam locked horns on Tuesday, January 10, and Shaw ended the first day remaining unbeaten at 240*(283), the best score of his career. On the second day’s play, the 23-year-old bettered the numbers and scored his first-ever triple-hundred off just 326 deliveries. His final knock of 379(383) included a whopping 49 fours and four sixes.
Here’s the list of records broken by Prithvi Shaw with his knock:
1. Prithvi Shaw broke a 32-year-old record of Mumbai cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, and surpassed his score of 377 to become the Mumbai player with the highest individual score.
2. Shaw also surpassed the legendary Sunil Gavaskar’s 340, and Vijay Merchant’s 359* alongside Manjrekar’s score to enter in the elite list.
3. Prithvi Shaw now holds the second-highest individual score in Ranji Trophy history and is now behind former Maharashtra cricketer and legend Bhausaheb Nimbalkar (443*).
4. Shaw notched up his career-best Ranji figures of 379(383), bettering his previous best of 202.
5. Shaw became the eighth Mumbai batter to score a triple hundred in first-class cricket
6. He became just the second player, after Gilbert Jessop of Gloucestershire to score 100+ runs before lunch twice in the same first-class match. While Jessop achieved the feat in two different innings, Prithvi Shaw did it in the same innings.
7. Shaw became just the first player to score a triple century in Ranji Trophy, Double century in Vijay Hazare Trophy and a century in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
8. Shaw’s 379 is also the highest score by an opening batter in Ranji Trophy as he surpassed Gujarat’s Samit Gohel’s 359*.
